What is LTAB

Expanding this abbreviation, LTAB is the Latvian Motor Insurers' Bureau. LTAB is an association that hosts all insurance companies that are entitled to insure the civil liability of land vehicle owners, in short, those insurance companies that are licensed to trade in MTPL.

At the time of writing, the following insurance companies have been registered in the LTAB system: ERGO, BALTA, Gjensidige, BTA, Compensa, Swedbank, IF and Baltijas Apdrošināšanas Nams. The CSDD, FCMC, LAA, State Police, Border Guard and State Technical Supervision Agency are also entitled to use the LTAB system.

The purpose of LTAB

The main goal of this association is to ensure the protection of the interests of third parties injured in road traffic accidents in Latvia and Green Card member states. LTAB updates the MTPL legislation in the responsible institutions and at the same time LTAB is the MTPL guarantee fund administrator.

What is a guarantee administration fund?

Insurance companies that are members of LTAB make a specific cash contribution to the guarantee fund, which in turn forms a provision. The purpose of this guarantee fund is to ensure the payment of insurance indemnity to cover losses caused by:

How LTAB helps drivers

LTAB is an assistant for both insurers and drivers. It provides insurers with a common data system on the losses of a particular vehicle, issues insurance history certificates, provides a search for an insurer in charge and other services.
