CASCO is a type of voluntary insurance with which the vehicle specified in the policy is insured with its standard and additional equipment (this is stipulated in the policy in advance). Damage to the vehicle, including theft, robbery, total destruction, as well as damage caused to your car by yourself, is insured.
The CASCO policy also tends to cover additional risks, such as roadside assistance, vehicle replacement, hydraulic shock, key renewal, renewal of registration documents and license plates, insurance of belongings left in the cabin, insurance of sports equipment attached to the vehicle, as well as improper refueling and other risks.
Usually insurers also offer additional conditions, such as car repairs at a dealer, insuring the driver and passengers against accidents, receiving a replacement rental car, as well as insuring the new value of your car, which means that in case of complete destruction or theft, you will receive a new equivalent.
REMEMBER!
All of Latvia's largest insurers include "24/7 roadside assistance" in CASCO policies, which you can use free of charge at any time of the day, both in Latvia and abroad, if the area of operation of your CASCO policy so provides. This service is a great helper in cases when you do not know how or can not fix a technical fault that prevents further use of the car. Roadside assistance always ensures that competent specialists come to you and help in cases when, for example:
Another good thing about this service is that you do not have to have an accident (or insured event) in order to use this service. Whenever there is a problem on the road or in the parking lot, we recommend that you call your insurer and make an immediate specialist consultation or come to you to get your vehicle in order. Read more about this in our article What is Roadside Assistance.
With each passing year, CASCO insurance policies are becoming more accessible and they provide a wider range of assistance and indemnity costs than before. In the same way, there are "bare" insurance programs that are more designed for older cars, so that the cost of purchasing a policy would not be so high. These "bare" policies usually cover only the most popular risks that can occur in everyday car use, such as a collision with another vehicle or animal. However, by choosing a wider coverage (of course, paying more for it) you will be able to get compensation for the damage caused to you, from a small scratch and punctured tires entering the pit, to the theft or damage of the belongings left in the cabin or the sports equipment attached to the car.
Other ricks, not mentioned above, which are also covered by standard CASCO policies:

The CASCO insurance price (or, as it is rightly called - the insurance premium) is influenced by various factors, including the market value of your vehicle, the age and driving experience of the driver, the driver's penalty points, Bonus Malus class, car make, model, year and capacity of its production, theft statistics of the specific make and model, car registration address (Riga or regions) and type of car use (taxi, learners transport and the like). Insurers differed in how each assessed the significance of all these factors, the risk class and how they affected the policy premium. It may be more important for one insurer how experienced the driver is, for another it may be more important in which city the car is left unattended overnight. Each insurer chooses how to rate these factors and what price to apply to each car that wants to insure.
Even the CASCO premium is affected by the policy conditions you have chosen for your car insurance, for example, what is the chosen policy area (only Latvia or a wider territory), the amount of deductibles (in addition, they may differ, for example, for glazing and other damage) and other conditions affecting prices. Taking all this and other variables into account, your policy premium can vary greatly depending on which insurer you choose. Therefore, on this page we update weekly information about the most up-to-date and latest solutions offered by the largest insurance companies in Latvia to protect your property and health from unforeseen expenses.
It is designed so that you, without the involvement of intermediaries, can calculate the price of your car insurance by choosing the conditions you want (including the range of insured risks and deductible) and terms. Just like when calculating the price for civil liability insurance, to find out the CASCO price, you need to enter the car registration number and registration certificate number in the CASCO calculator. Within seconds, you will receive a quote for at least two insurance programs (usually Standard and Plus). Very often Standard programs are only slightly cheaper than a wider range of CASCO policies, so many choose the program that offers more than standardized risk coverage.
Using the CASCO calculator, you can adjust the price of your policy by choosing the territory of insurance activity, term (1 or 2 years), the amount of deductibles, the age of the youngest driver and other parameters offered. This makes the price calculation simpler and more transparent, because you can choose your conditions and see how they change your CASCO price.
